Notes for: Brady Hampton LANDERS

******************************************************************************

Brady worked with his father in the mines after he completed only a 3rd. grade education. He later graduated from the "Northwestern School of Taxidermy" and completed a one year apprenticeship under Sydney Morgan of Winfield Road in Putnam County, WV. Taxidermy was then a hobby for many years to come. Brady later worked for one year at the "Nitro Pencil Company" before starting work in 1927 for the "Rubber Service Company" which later became the Monsanto Chemical Company. Brady retired from Monsanto in 1965 with 38 years service.

After retirement, Brady took up "whittling" which he demonstrated and exhibited at numerous Arts & Crafts Fairs, businesses, schools, colleges, etc.

Brady always had a "chew of tobacca" in, unless it was meal time.

Brady & family lived at 413 4th. Street, Nitro from August 1947 until Feb. 11, 1950 when they moved to Black Betsy.

He built his own brick home in Black Betsy, Putnam County, WV which he completed & moved into on February 11, 1950. He did all the work himself with the exception of laying the brick, by working each evening after working all day at his job with Monsanto Chemical Company.

Brady bought a house at 1627 16th. Street and moved there on April 4, 1973 shortly after his wife had died. This was just a few house from where his daughter, Nettie lived on 16th. Street and just a few blocks from his daughter, Helen.

He then sold his house on 16th. Street and bought a river lot & house at 1133 West 11th. Street in Nitro on 10-Oct-1981 next to his daughter, Helen.
