________________________
Mrs. Mattie Susan Hively died Sept.17, 1923, age 44 years, 5 months, 22 days.
She was the daughter of Joseph and Anne Payne. She was married to J.S.
Hively, Oct.5, 1899, to this union were born 8 children, four sons and four

Rev. Calvin Carper, and united with the Huricane Baptist church and lived a
true Christian life unto death. She leaves to mourn her loss her husband and
eight children, her father and four brothers. Mother and one sister preceded
her to the grave. Sister Hively was a kind wife and a loving mother and a
good neighbor.
Funeral services were conducted by the writer at the Hurricane Baptist church
from the words there shall be no more death, neither sorrow nor crying,
neither shall there be any more pain for the former things have passed away.
Interment was made in the Payne cemetery, Sept.18th.
Truly a good woman has fallen.
A precious one from them is gone.
A voice they loved is still.
A place is vacant in the home
That never can be filled.

"Mattie" was supposedly 1/2 Cherokee Indian, and under 5 feet tall with long
red hair that reached the floor (per son, Elzie). She did not read or write.
