Bert Frazier, L a w m a n F o r 2 0 Y e a r s, D i e s

Sheriff's Capt. Bert Frazier, 49, a 20-year veteran of law enforcement, died late Thursday.

Frazier was head of the services division of the Sheriff's Office at the time of his death.

He had been an Albuquerque police officer for three years before moving to the Sheriff's Office, where he served under five different sheriffs.

Sheriff's Capt. John Sands, who worked closely with Frazier, said "Bert was about as well liked a guy as I ever knew. He was always willing to help. I lost a good friend, not just a co-worker, but a very good friend."

Frazier had fallen ill about two months ago, and he was operated on for a brain hemorrhage at St. Joseph Hospital nine weeks ago. While in the hospital, he suffered multiple heart attacks, and he was in the coronary unit when he died, Sands said.

He is survived by his wife, Mary, five children, four grandchildren, his father, two sisters, and a brother.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. John's Episcopal Cathedral with the Rev. John A. Price officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers contributions in Frazier's name be made to the Police Athletic League, 401 Marquette NW 87102.
