It eventually peaked at #2 on the pop chart and at #50 on the country chart. “Country Roads” soon became John Denver’s 1st million selling record. “Country Roads” has been performed at every home football pre-game show since 1972. In 1980, John Denver performed “Country Roads” during pre-game festivities to a sold-out crowd of Mountaineer fans. This performance marked the dedication of new Mountaineer Field and the first game for new Mountaineer head coach, Don Nehlen. Almost heaven, West Virginia Blue Ridge mountains, Shenandoah River.
